We are awaiting an order of Cassils - all orders will be recorded and shipped later this month.
Cassils is a performance artist and body builder who uses their own body in a sculptural fashion, interrogating feminism, body art, and gay male aesthetics. Together, their body of work and physical body stretch and play with the boundaries between binary conceptions of gender, and between vulnerability and strength.
Cassils' work applies extreme techniques uncommon to the realm of contemporary art, such as bodybuilding, stunts, and martial arts. In their work physiques emerge that physically question notions of violence and resistance from a transgendered perspective.
This publication illustrates Cassils' compelling works and features essays by David J. Getsy and Julia Steinmetz.
